This is the first edition Suntory Aritayaki, released in 1992, containing a special blended whisky which has been aged for more than 22 years. The heavy square decanter depicts a festive phoenix, decorated with peonies and plums.

Arita and Kutani are the pre-eminent ceramic houses in Japan, both located on the island of Kyushu From 2001 till 2014 each house designed a decanter, which was hand-painted and bottled with Suntory's exceptional Hibiki 21 years old.

This is the Aritayaki 2012 design, released December 4th 2012 and limited to 600 decanters.

Suntory Hibiki 21 years 2002 Aritayaki

The Arita and Kutani ceramic decanters were an annual limited release from Suntory, bottled between 2001 and 2014. Each one contains their exceptional Hibiki 21 year old blend, which contains malt from their Yamazaki and Hakushu distilleries, and grain from the Chita distillery. Arita and Kutani are the pre-eminent ceramic houses in Japan, both located on the islad of Kyushu. Each year, both houses designed a decanter each, and they are all hand-painted.

This is the Arita 2002 release, bottled for the year 2003.

Hibiki was introduced in 1989, initially as a nas version containing 30 different malt whiskies which was later changed to a recipe containing a blend of 36 malt whiskies with an ag statement of 17 years, meaning the youngest component in the blend aged that long. Hibiki 21 first appeared in 1994 and, due to a temporarily shortage, it was announced as being discontinued but in fact it remained in production after all.

This is the 1st release, available between 1994 and 1999, individually numbered old crest design with a golden back label, still assembled from 30 malt whiskies.

Suntory Hibiki 2000 Shell Japan 100th Ann.

This decanter was released in honor or the 100th anniversary of Shell Japan, founded on April 11, 1900 by Samual, Samual & Co. This company started trading from Yokohama in 1876, became part of the Shell Transport and Trading Company in 1897 which merged with The Royal Dutch Petroleum Company in 1907 to eventually become Royal Dutch Shell Group, one of the Seven Sisters.

Suntory Hibiki Koto
Hibiki Koto, bottled in a porcelain decanter shaped after the famous long Japanese board zither. The koto appeared in the Japanese court during the 8th century and was called the gakusō. Schools for the bourgeois were established in the 16th century. Two of these—Ikuta (started in the 17th century) and Yamada (opened in the 18th century)—continue to the present day. Solo (danmono) and chamber (sankyoku) music dominate the repertory, and in the latter form the koto player often sings as well.

Suntory President's Choice 90th Anniversary
Suntory President's Choice was selected and blended by Keizo Saji, born in Osaka in 1919 as the second son of Shinjiro Torii, founder of Kotobukiya. He became president of Kotobukiya in 1961, and officially renamed it to Suntory Limited in 1963, paying tribute to the success of Suntory Whisky a.k.a. Kakubin.

This decanter was bottled in 1989 to commemorate Suntory's 90th anniversary.

Tokyo Sungoliath (formerly known as Suntory Sungoliath) is owned by the Suntory beverage company and is one of the Japanese rugby union teams in the Top League. The team is based in Fuchū, Tokyo, as is their local rival Toshiba Brave Lupus. The team rebranded as Tokyo Sungoliath ahead of the rebranding of the Top League to the Japan Rugby League One in 2022. This bottle was released in 2017 to celebrate the victory in the 2016-17 Top League.

This Aritayaki decanter was released in 1989 to commemorate Suntory 90th anniversary. What exactly has been used to fill the decanter is unknown, one would expect Hibiki, introduced that very same year for exactly the same occasion, but until proven it remains 'just' a blended whisky. The decanter itself has been shaped after a Yazan Kiln.
