The Hakushu distillery is owned by the Suntory group, and situated in the Toribara locality of the former town of Hakushu, in the Yamanashi Prefecture, Chubu region, Japan.

Suntory Hibiki 30 years was launched in 1987 and had become one of the most sought-after whiskies on the planet, winner of the 'world's best blended whisky' at the 2007 and 2008 World Whisky Awards.

This is a 2014 limited edition of just 100 Aritayaki porcelain decanters.

To Commemorate Mount Fuji, the highest peak in Japan, getting added to the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage List in 2013, Suntory released a hand painted special edition limited edition of 2000 decanters in 2014 and a second batch the year thereafter of which this is one.

The Arita and Kutani ceramic decanters were an annual limited release from Suntory, bottled between 2001 and 2014. Each one contains their exceptional Hibiki 21 year old blend, which contains malt from their Yamazaki and Hakushu distilleries, and grain from the Chita distillery. Arita and Kutani are the pre-eminent ceramic houses in Japan, both located on the islad of Kyushu. Each year, both houses designed a decanter each, and they are all hand-painted.

Suntory introduced Hibiki in April 1989, released to celebrate the 90th Anniversary of the company.  The NAS premium blend at 43% ABV carried a suggested retail price of ¥10,000. Designated as “a masterful blend of specially aged whiskies with a mature full-bodied taste” on the front, the back label further elaborates that the contents are a mix of 30 different whiskies. The unique bottle, with its 24 facets that reflect the hours in the day as well as all the ‘small seasons’ in the year, sported a medallion, a gold cap stopper, all packaged in a luxurious box.  

Hibiki 17 years old was launched in 1994, as replacement for the nas version which however contained the exact same whisky.

This is the 3rd edition with gold label and clear facetted stopper, a blend of 36 malt whiskies unlike the previous version which contained a blend of 30 malt whiskies.

The 2022 Mizunara Cask from Yamazaki is inspired by Tsukuriwake, a philosophy of artisanship through diversity. This series unveils the individual elements that make Yamazaki whisky, from the casks that it matures in to the malt that it is made from.

Yamazaki 2013 Sherry Cask, limited to 18000 bottles, could be considered a game changer. After it received 100 points from Murray prices exploded and many other Japanese whiskies where pulled along.

This Aritayaki decanter was released in 1989 to commemorate Suntory 90th anniversary. What exactly has been used to fill the decanter is unknown, one would expect Hibiki, introduced that very same year for exactly the same occasion, but until proven it remains 'just' a blended whisky.

This Suntory Nazo was selected and blended by Ira Ishida. Bottled 10th June 2004 for the Japan Association of Mystery/Detective Novelists.

Suntory Nazo Kaoru was bottled August 7th 2003 for the Japan Association of Mystery/Detective Novelists. This 15-year old secret whiskey was selected and blended by Kaoru Takamura, a Japanese writer from Osaka. Note: sold without box!

Hibiki was introduced in 1989, initially as a nas version containing 30 different malt whiskies which was later changed to a recipe containing a blend of 36 malt whiskies with an ag statement of 17 years, meaning the youngest component in the blend aged that long. Hibiki 21 first appeared in 1994 and, due to a temporarily shortage, it was announced as being discontinued but in fact it remained in production after all.

This Hibiki 21-years old decanter was released in 2001 for the 15th anniversary of Crown Plaza ANA Kyoto hotel.

Back in 1876 Alexander Graham Bell was awarded the first U.S. patent for the invention of the telephone. In 1890 the first telephone line between Tokyo and Yokohama became active. In 1990 Suntory honored the 100th anniversary of this event with the release of a black ceramic decanter shaped after the iconic Table Telephone No.2 which was launched in 1906 but apparently it took until 1927 until they found there way to Japan.

This blue/white octopus Arabesque pattern Aritayaki decanter, decorated with a Usagi (rabbit) under the moon and the Kanji character Fuku, was released in 1998. Bottled with 12-year old Hakushu single malt.

This Suntory Finest Old Liqueur whisky was bottled by Kotobukiya, the name of the distillery which changed to Suntory in 1963, after the most successful whisky they produced. Suntory Old appeared on the market in 1950, a blend of malt- and grain whiskies.
